Biography
Rev. Mac Shorty is well known and respected among government and community leaders across
the U.S. He is an effective communicator with elected officials in the Congress, in state
legislatures, and in local governments. His insights, political savvy, and sensitivity to public
policy issues, have made him a go-to advisor for assisting boards of directors and C-suite
executives, as well as local governments, in pursuing productive engagements with state and
federal government at all levels. His skill at assisting in overcoming problems presented by
government, is matched only by his equally effective, and at times prescient, skill at anticipating,
and assisting in avoiding, foreseeable problems with government bodies.
He began his career in public life as a lay leader of a church in the heart of Watts, in Los
Angeles, where he was beloved as a charismatic and impassioned advocate for the
disadvantaged. His organizing skills, and his commitment to helping others, has made him a
sought-after advisor when a matter impacting public policy is on a government agenda. He has
been embraced and lauded by elected leaders of Los Angeles City and County governments as
much for his vision and tenacity, as for his personal warmth and caring attitude well known to
the residents of the many communities who regard him as one of their own. He is regularly
invited to address meetings of local, state, and federal government councils, commissions, and
committees on a wide range of issues across the U.S.
His track record of success far exceeds the modesty Mac Shorty is known for. In 2014 he
founded the Watts Clean Air and Energy Committee, pulling together local residents from Watts,
Compton, Wilmington, Inglewood, and other nearby communities. He inspired them to take part
in making their voices heard in taking responsibility for the health of their families and
neighbors. It was a huge and welcome success in the community. That project attracted attention
well beyond Los Angeles, and, in 2018, an Earth Day Celebration he founded at a local church
in Los Angeles, attracted not only hundreds of local residents, but also senior representatives of
numerous state and national organizations, and participation by major businesses, including a
prominent Japanese carmaker.
He has continued to expand and build upon those, and many other, successes, putting his
organizing model, skills, and personal charisma to work for the betterment of so many
communities and so many businesses that contribute to the quality of life for everyone, that his
name has become a byword for good public policy in the halls of government, from California to
Washington, D.C. and beyond. He is a welcome advisor in corporate boardrooms and C-suites in
a wide range of industries.
